Samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 p3100 reviews. Various sensors perform various quantitative measurements and convert physical indicators into signals that a mobile device recognizes

In 2010, quite distant by the standards of the current mobile industry, Samsung opened a line of 7-inch tablets. We even published a review of this device, coming to an ambiguous conclusion. At that time, Samsung had one of the best Android tablets at that time, but compared to the iPad, it was inferior in almost all respects, including cost.

Over time, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the flagship Galaxy Tab 7.7 were brought to the market. The end of May was marked by the appearance in the CIS of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 model, which can be considered an intermediate link between budget tablets and flagship offerings.

If the first Tab with a 3G module cost sky-high about 27-28 thousand, then the current model with a 3G module will cost no more than 13 thousand. Samsung explains such a drastic cost reduction by the fact that in 2010 it was just starting to break in the production of tablets. And as a result, it was forced to bear high production costs. However, this comment is of little value in light of the fact that the advertised price is normal (i.e. competitive) for a 7-inch tablet PC with Tab 2 specs.

Design

The Tab 2 cannot boast of a memorable appearance. In our opinion, the exterior of the tablet turned out to be too faceless - there is nothing to catch the eye. However, there is nothing to complain about on the other hand, we are dealing with a thin profile and small stylish buttons.

Directly above the screen in the center is a small speaker grid. It is found in the previous models of the line. This solution does not look very successful, since a priori it evokes an association with a big phone. Apparently Samsung intends to use the tablet as a complete replacement for a smartphone or regular phone, but does not quite understand the appropriateness of finding a 7-inch device at the ear. In fairness, we note that the device also has “ordinary” speakers.

However, we will not find fault and take the tablet in hand. In the palms, the impression of the model improves dramatically, which is facilitated by a more than acceptable weight of 345 grams. Anyway, even girls should have no problem holding the Tab 2 7.0 with one hand. The small thickness of the case is accompanied by the absence of clear right angles on the sides. Therefore, the discomfort from the parts of the body resting against the palm is not felt, giving way to an ergonomic design.

Considering the quality of performance, it should be noted that we have a pre-sale sample of the tablet. Apparently, therefore, cracks were clearly visible in the lower part at the corners between the case and the lid. In commercial versions of Tab 2, they are removed. However, we cannot say with equal certainty that Samsung has also eliminated the slight but quite noticeable deflection of the back cover. After the tested one, which had the same problem a little more pronounced, Samsung wanted to get a more decent answer.

Execution materials are another controversial point. If the glass of the front panel does not cause any complaints, then the plastic of the lid looks and feels not very presentable.

The tablet was provided to us along with a soft leatherette case. Whether it is possible to find one for sale, we do not know, since the tablet is still very new. But, we believe, this will cost within a thousand rubles.

Connectors and controls

After Google released Android 3.x, it was almost unmistakable to determine which version of the system is installed on the tablet. Budget adherents of Android 2.2 / 2.3 continued to demonstrate a number of touch buttons under the screen, and the owners of Android 3.x were deprived of them. Android 4.0 retained the approach of having all the extra buttons on the system bar, so there are no buttons visible on the front of the Tab 2.

Instead, in the upper part in the center is the already mentioned speaker, taken away by a fine mesh, as well as light and distance sensors. Below is the name of the manufacturer.

On the left side there are slots for a microSD memory card and a SIM card. Our attempt to install a SIM card failed - it successfully fell inside and strongly recommended contacting a service center. By the way, all connectors contain plugs, which is a very useful point - no matter where the tablet is stored, dust and dirt will not clog into the connectors.

On the right side, there was a place for dual volume control keys and an on / off button. They are raised above the body, are conveniently located under the index finger and are pressed without difficulty.

At the top end there is only a 3.5 mm output for a headset or headphones.

The lower part of the tablet is interesting for the presence of speaker slots on both sides. Note that they give out a good volume and sound quality, as far as it is generally possible for a tablet form factor. In the center there is a 30-pin connector for connecting to a computer or connecting to a charger.

On the back cover, we see only the Samsung inscription and the camera eye in the upper left corner. Along the way, we note that the Tab 2 does not have a flash.

In our case, the tablet was submitted for testing "as is", so we did not have a chance to get acquainted with its complete set live.

Screen

The 7-inch display offers a resolution of 1024x600 pixels, which is now becoming more or less the standard for such a diagonal instead of the obsolete 800x480 pixels. The pixel density is 169 dpi. Of course, the display is capacitive, with support for multi-touch and up to 10 simultaneous touches, inclusive. Samsung's arsenal of screens allows the company to "maneuver" depending on the cost of the tablet. Tab 2 received a PLS matrix of its own production.

According to its properties, it seemed to us practically indistinguishable from IPS variations. However, it was not without both positive and negative features. An unpleasant surprise was the lack of sufficiently deep blacks, which is especially noticeable in films with dark scenes. However, the measured contrast ratio was 947:1, which is not too bad. And the black level at 100% brightness was only 0.41 cd/m2. Here, apparently, the lack of PLS played, which manifests itself in a purple tint of black, if you look at the screen at an angle.

But the overall excellent brightness of the display acts as compensation. At first, it even seemed to us that the value was set to the maximum, but no - the slider was only on half of the ruler. Accordingly, the color image is clearly visible in the sun. The brightness of the white point at the screen is 388 cd / m2 - an indicator above average.

At the same time, it is worth stocking up on a cloth in advance to wipe the glass coating, which quickly collects fingerprints. The viewing angles of the Tab 2 are another tablet-specific highlight. They are quite large, but even with a small deviation both vertically and horizontally, a barely noticeable gray “film” begins to appear.

As for the color temperature, the Tab 2 showed a flat graph without blockages, almost along its entire length it goes close to the reference value. For comparison, you can look at ours to see the difference between a quality PLS and a budget TFT.

With gamma curves it's still better, the line almost does not deviate from the reference. Only in the upper part is visible some disproportion, indicating a slight overexposure of the picture.

Camera

The tablet has two cameras, which allows us to take more or less high-quality pictures and make video calls over the Internet. The rear camera has three megapixels, the maximum shooting resolution is 2048x1536 pixels. The front camera is perceived purely with the prefix "web" due to the presence of only 0.3 megapixels.

Despite the fact that we are dealing with Android 4.0, with all the desire, some innovations are imperceptible, which is certainly more the fault of the limited capabilities of the front camera.

It doesn't even have autofocus, let alone LED flash. It doesn’t make much sense to talk about shooting settings, since they basically duplicate what could be seen at least in . Only for Tab 2, the number of options has been almost halved.

After a depressing set of settings, the quality of the resulting images turned out to be surprisingly acceptable. Before we got acquainted with the characteristics of the tablet, it seemed that the model has a 5-megapixel camera. In any case, in the absence of "soap" at hand, Tab 2 will not be the worst replacement for shooting.

The rear camera did without surprises, it turned out to be especially sensitive to poor lighting.

Characteristics

The new Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 will have to compete with relatively inexpensive Chinese solutions like the Huawei MediaPad.

The hardware stuffing looks powerful enough. The dual-core processor has become almost a standard feature of tablets in the middle price segment. The number of processor cores has never been a measure of performance on Android since the introduction of Tegra 2 due to poor software and hardware optimization. With the advent of Tegra 3, the situation has changed little.

RAM is present in the proper amount - 1 GB. 16 GB of storage space is enough for a small multimedia collection, including a couple of HD movies. In addition, you can install a memory card up to 32 GB, forming 48 GB of storage.

In terms of wireless networks, the Tab 2 is in full order - it supports both the ability to talk on cellular networks, and 3G, and the full arsenal of 802.11b / g / n. Also pleased with Bluetooth in version 3.0. The absence of NFC is not particularly upsetting, since the technology is not yet widely distributed in the CIS.

In terms of battery capacity, the claimed 4000 mAh seems to be the best choice for a high-resolution 7-inch tablet. The Tab 2 does not show miracles of autonomous work, charging, depending on the tasks performed, does not show miracles of the duration of work and allows the tablet to function for 5-8 hours.

If we compare it with Huawei MediaPad, which is seen as the closest competitor, then the choice is far from the most obvious. Most of the characteristics are the same, the advantage of the Huawei model is expressed in a slightly more powerful processor and "honest" IPS. But it has outdated Bluetooth 2.1 and weighs 41 grams more. Finally, Huawei is somehow not famous for its software add-ons.

Performance Testing

We decided to check the actual performance in comparison with the already familiar PocketBook A7 ", which has a single-core 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and a weaker graphics processor. Let's see how Tab 2 justifies the superiority of its characteristics in practice.

SmartBench 2011 started with an almost crushing difference. Apparently, the test managed to make the most of the Samsung tablet's multi-core processor, as well as its RAM. Accordingly, the superiority of 4 times is evident. The 2012 edition was not so categorical. In general performance, the 4x advantage remains, but the gaming experience is no longer so noticeably behind. Maybe the "graphics" A7 "is not so low-powered?

AnTutu again puts everything in its place, the difference in results is 2-4 times on all fronts. The only "anomalous" exception was two-dimensional graphics. Apparently the PowerVR SGX 530 chip has far from obvious abilities.

The Linpack test is based on the computing power of the processor, so expecting a more or less decent result from the A7" would be at least stupid.

A series of graphic tests dispelled the doubts left after Smartbench 2012. The gap in all benchmarks was at least twofold, so the owners of the A7" should not build illusions about performance against the background of even such "average" tablets by today's standards as the Tab 2.

The multi-core system fully justified itself in the JavaScript tests, the 4-5 times superiority completely and with a decent margin justifies the difference in characteristics between the tablets.

The win of the PocketBook tablet by about 25% was revealed in the battery life test, which can be explained by the banal lower load of the system and programs on the battery. Still, the more limited the performance, the better the battery life of the device becomes. How much this is a plus is a completely different conversation. The AnTutu battery test showed little difference, but we tend to trust our own practical measurement more.

In general, the superiority of the Tab 2 fully justifies its more powerful processor and graphics chip - the overpayment for their capabilities is justified and really gives a multiple advantage over less productive platforms.

Software (Android 4)

It's not hard to guess that the device has Android 4.0 installed with the TouchWiz add-on. We hasten to immediately disappoint readers a little - a dual-core processor, as always, did not become a guarantee of performance. This in no way means that the tablet "slows down". On the contrary, it works quite fast, but the ideal has not been achieved yet again.

Let's just say - the global difference in comparison with single-core platforms is not felt. A striking example is the built-in image editing program, which clearly "reduces FPS" when working with effects. When several tasks are launched, and interactive wallpapers are installed on the background, 1 GB of memory and two 1 GHz cores remain only on paper in the columns of the tablet characteristics.

If you are also already familiar with one of the Samsung devices based on Android 3.x, then Android ICS with TouchWiz by Tab 2 will not be a discovery for you. Rather, on the contrary - the changes are mostly cosmetic, there is a feeling that we are dealing with a slightly improved and optimized Android 3.x. This is also expressed in programs; indeed, new developments can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Therefore, for a detailed tour of pre-installed applications, we send you to the "Screenshots" section.

The start menu greets us with the absence of a lock screen. It was never found anywhere, including in the system settings. Feature of the industrial design? Maybe. So, on the main screen we see a set of programs in two rows, at the top there is a quick call to Google search, displaying the number of desktops and switching to the full list of programs. On the bottom panel on the left is a standard set of virtual keys for Android ICS: return, go to the start menu, call the list of running tasks and take a screenshot.

A few words about the last point. Unlike ASUS Prime, the screenshot lacks a prominent white button instead of the capture button in the resulting image. This plus Samsung "compensated" by the fact that after taking a picture, the system automatically opens it in the editor. Very "convenient" when you need to get a series of 100-200 screenshots.

By holding down the home button, we get an overview of all available desktops, with the ability to delete current ones and add new ones.

Below is a pop-up panel with a list of programs for quick download. It is not edited in any way.

There was also a tray, which in general is not much different from what we have already seen in Android 3.x.

The logic for choosing widgets and wallpapers is lame on both legs. By holding the touch on any screen, we get the add menu, according to which it is difficult to say what we are generally offered to do. The sequence of construction of phrases is also upsetting, the construction “Select wallpaper from the Home screen” is difficult to understand. Interestingly, in the English version of the menu interface, the menu pleases no less.

There are surprisingly few available wallpapers, but the pictures are extremely attractive. Not without interactive wallpaper.

The choice of widgets is quite large, although it did not become a revelation - there are gadgets for all major programs.

The list of pre-installed programs is not that small, but it is too familiar to us from previous Samsung devices. On the other hand, this is more than enough set for the average user.

The list of new or modified programs, as we have already said, is extremely modest. However, let's go through them. The first in line is the most powerful office suite Polaris Office.

The tablet has a new version installed, which is a radically different interface from what we saw in the Galaxy S II. First, the menu has changed visually. It notifies us that the program has learned to support "cloud" services.

In our case, synchronization with Google Drive went without problems.

The built-in file manager has undergone a change, it has become much more convenient and functional. On the top panel, you can instantly create a new file, add a new folder, change the ordering of files and search.

In the text document editor, the editing options panel is now located in the upper right corner. It is called after a text fragment is selected. The visual representation of the settings is beyond praise - they are tabbed and intuitive.

The same is true for the spreadsheet editor.

The creation of slides has also undergone changes for the better, the settings are streamlined more clearly.

The Pulse program looks very curious. This is a creative take on organizing your own RSS feed, but not as a dry text list, but as a kind of mini-site. The point is to install news feeds of information sites in a line. That is, on the first line we read the Wall Steet Journal, on the second we look at the summary of Popular Mechanics, and so on.

Moreover, tape sets are presented in the form of "working" tables. So on one we can store fashion tapes, on the second - technology. In general, the real Web 2.0 in all its glory.

The calendar has been updated, although it is impossible to note anything really remarkable. For each day, the installation of different tasks for execution is available, with the ability to synchronize between your devices.

Visually "retouched" Samsung Apps. The organization of the apps is better, but the dark background doesn't look like the best choice for the service.

The system alarm left a good impression, mostly due to the compact and efficient arrangement of the settings.

The Samsung video player has undergone a slight functional improvement. A large list of options drops out by clicking on the button in the upper right corner, options are available such as selecting subtitles and setting the playback speed. However, the proportions of the panels called during viewing are poorly chosen - in total they occupy half the screen, although they are translucent.

Not without a task manager that allows you to close a single running application or clear the entire list of running programs at once. Processes can be sorted by different parameters.

The system browser is still good looking. In comparison with what he saw, only his color palette has changed.

The music player, as befits a program of its category, has many options for filtering and organizing song lists. Available equalizer and playback control from the system tray.

It is difficult to come up with anything really new with phone functions, so we work with the familiar dialing or messaging interface, as well as the contact log.

ChatON client is pre-installed to improve communication capabilities. This is a complete chat solution for pair or group conversations and file sharing. In general, a typical IM client.

The Game Hub service has undergone a strange change. Previously, it provided access to many Gameloft games with the ability to download and play for free during the demo period. Now he is left with some kind of vague application that simply redirects us to Google Play.

The program "World Time" looks really original. It contains a three-dimensional globe, which displays different cities, which can be used to find out about the time in different time zones.

In conclusion, we repeat what was said above - there are no special innovations for those who are familiar with past Samsung products based on Android. At the same time, the company continued the policy of supplying its developments with the maximum number of necessary programs out of the box.

Conclusion

The positioning of the Tab 2 looks like a very successful attempt by Samsung to present a tablet capable of satisfying all the most relevant requirements for such devices. In any case, the model has all the features that distinguish it from typical budget tablets.

The sun-resistant and high-quality PLS display is responsible for the quality of the picture, in fact, it does not at all seem like a compromise in comparison with IPS. The dual-core processor is more than enough for both basic and demanding tasks. In the end, manufacturers have not yet been able to convincingly prove the need for quad-core platforms. The 3G module is not an exclusive thing at all, but with it the user will not depend on a Wi-Fi connection.

The design of the tablet is devoid of some remarkable features, but due to the small thickness of the body it still looks attractive. Let down except that the assembly of the case and the unpresentable plastic of the back cover. I would also like to see a Gorilla Glass protective coating in the Tab 2.

Price

The cost of a model with a 3G module is about 13 thousand. Much or little we learn in comparison with the proposals of competitors. The main parameters of the search for rivals were the presence of a 3G module and a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels. These are Huawei MediaPad, Acer Iconia Tab A101 and Explay MID-725.

You can now buy Huawei MediaPad for 12,000 rubles. We made a more or less direct comparison with the Tab 2 in the specs section. The difference in price fully covers the possible shortcomings of the tablet.

Acer Iconia Tab A101 will cost 12500-13000 rubles. It is based on NVIDIA Tegra 2, but unpleasantly surprised by the presence of a TN + Film matrix, which is unacceptable for such an expensive tablet.

Finally, the Explay MID-725 has only 4 GB of memory for data storage, but costs only 8,000 rubles. True, the characteristics of the Tab 2 are sky-high - a single-core 1.2 GHz processor, Android 2.3, 512 MB of RAM and a TFT screen. A moment of humor, let's evaluate the flight of thought of one of the Russian online stores: "Explay MID-725 almost completely repeats the capabilities of the iPad tablet promoted on the market, while it has something to brag about Apple products."

In general, against the background of competitors, Tab 2 does not look the best, but it is quite worthy of the buyer's choice of a tablet.

Pros:

  • high-quality PLS-screen;
  • thin body;
  • light weight;
  • 3G support;
  • expandable memory with microSD cards;
  • productive hardware platform;
  • Android 4 with TouchWiz shell;
  • high quality rear camera.

Minuses:

  • prints quickly accumulate on the screen;
  • the back cover bends;
  • the system is poorly optimized.

    samsung and no more

    Bought in 2012. The tablet is still serviceable and performs its functions, it is now February 2019, which means it is 7 years old. Service life from the manufacturer 3 years. Now the firmware is Line Age OS Android 6.0.1 (13.0-20180211-NIGHTLY-espresso3g) - this is the most stable firmware with long autonomy, all devices work. The tablet works confidently, stably, at a speed corresponding to the hardware. Very loud speakers, the navigator shouts over any music in the car. The camera is 3MP, but in good light the pictures are not bad (if it happened that I had to take pictures on this tablet). The main thing is not to use non-standard launchers and dialers, they are often a source of brakes and blunts. Currently I use it as a clock, a radio on my desktop. In general - old, reliable

    Great device! Very reliable. Worked for almost 4 years with constant intensive use. Never disappointed. I purchased it mainly for navigating the Internet, reading books, as well as for a number of useful applications. As a phone, I practically did not use it, mainly with headphones. The battery lasted for a day. Fell several times, but not from a great height. The glass was not cracked, continued to work normally. The problems started after I got under the water. The battery began to discharge faster, after a complete discharge it was very difficult to turn it on. So now I'm looking for a replacement.

    the sound often disappears (it is treated by a reboot), it hangs for 10 minutes (it happened a couple of times), the power button and the sound are not convenient. The sensor does not work periodically, I could not figure out the reasons. In short, for this money, I expected more ... I am supplementing after 3 years of use. Does not work. It loads and that's it ... It's not possible to go anywhere ... It freezes completely ...

    The standard firmware from Samsung in a certain period of time became very stupid. There is not enough space in the storage, but this is in the past) Now I don’t install anything superfluous on it, which means everything works fine.

    Tablet computers Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 P3100 8Gb are considered to be light and compact devices, easy to use and reliable. Real reviews about the tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7

    Ilya

    • Working with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 P3100 8Gb is bliss, because. for a month of use, everything suits me very much and I don’t even go to the computer. In addition, I am thinking of replacing the computer with an even more powerful and larger tablet of this series, but I still lack a few programs to turn the tablet into a full-fledged personal computer. At first I bought it as an addition to my smartphone, because. the tablet supported SIM cards (in other words, I did not even consider SIM-free tablets). And I received not only an addition, but a full-fledged car with the Internet, which is always with me! I have no complaints about the device at all, and the size and speed of its operation just amazes me! True, the accessories for it are very expensive, but this is superfluous. So my rating is a solid 5.

    Oleg

    • I like the tablet, but for a long time I drove it without a cover in transport, but I realized that it was unreliable, and now I choose a cover-book. I like that you can use a memory card to download files (both using a slot and using a card reader, which you can buy at any computer store), as well as the quality of working with the Internet using the Opera browser. I also think that this tablet is very fast, convenient, holds a charge for a long time (enough for almost a day), does not heat up and does not discharge in standby mode, is equipped with basic programs and even an archiver. True, not on all computers the device is defined as a flash drive.
    • I was serious about buying a tablet, because. a lot of money ... I looked closely for almost a month and finally matured on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 P3100 8Gb, because. with its help, I could always have active 2 SIM cards, and also had the opportunity to constantly surf the Internet. I think that this model is the perfect combination of quality and price, weight and size, battery life and interface. The tablet justifies itself and does not look bulky, and even on the screen with its resolution, you can watch any movies and constantly surf the Internet.

    • I bought this model and did not regret it - the device itself is very cool, it is easy to type texts on it and it even fits in a jeans pocket. At the same time, various applications and tasks are launched, such as HD video, a lot of programs and GPS navigation, and the device copes with them, although it heats up a little. I don't really like the camera, though. the photos turn out creepy, but this is not a minus, because. I never understood why cameras are in phones and tablets, if they can hardly be compared even with a soap dish ... WiFi is excellent in a tablet, the connection is not interrupted, and therefore I can call the device excellent for work.

    • If you are an illiterate person, then it will seem to you that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 P3100 8Gb has a “marble” screen, an uncomfortable keyboard in portrait mode, it is impossible to delete standard applications, the sound of the tablet is not loud, the shell slows down, etc. But if you are still at least a little versed in devices, you will understand that 8 GB of memory is enough for all applications and OS, the device supports memory cards - and this is a huge plus, all unused applications can be disabled, etc. I use the Galaxy Tab both as a tablet and as a phone and player, and so far there have been no complaints!

    The opinion of the SOTAFRESH project about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7 tablet

    Users speak generally well about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 P3100 8Gb model, however, some disadvantages are worth mentioning.

    Among the positive reviews are:

    • High speed of work;
    • The ability to play any game, even the newest;
    • Excellent work WiFi, bluetooth headphones and kies air;
    • Excellent communication, loud sound;
    • High-quality 7-inch screen with high resolution;
    • Adequate price;
    • Fast browser;
    • Own video and audio players;
    • Nice widgets;
    • High build quality;
    • Support for many video and audio formats.

    Among the negative aspects, users distinguish:

    • Poor quality camera
    • Own connector for synchronization with PC and for charging;
    • Lack of autofocus in the camera;
    • Slowdown in TouchWiz;
    • Initially installed, but not very necessary applications, which can only be fixed by installing new analogues.

    After analyzing the characteristics of the device and user reviews, we can conclude that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 P3100 8Gb tablet has a screen capable of transmitting images of exceptional clarity thanks to a display with 1024x600 pixels, well-implemented multitasking of the system thanks to a processor with 2 cores, and speed thanks to Android OS , dual cameras, slim body and light weight.

    The world of seven-inch tablets is not something that shuddered with the entry of Apple into this market, but most likely this event will soon change it. Analysts are trumpeting with might and main about the prospects of the segment, foreshadowing its rapid growth. The age-old rival of the apple company, Samsung, mastered the segment much earlier and released more than one seven-inch tablet into the world. Unlike last year's Galaxy Tab 7.7, the hero of today's review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is neither a flagship nor a prestigious model. Nevertheless, its characteristics are worthy of respect and force those who need an inexpensive tablet that is convenient to carry with them every day to take a closer look at it.

    Design and connectors

    Describing the design of tablets is not easy at all, and the design of Samsung tablets is doubly so. They are too similar to each other. In the pictures, in principle, it is clear that this is a child of its eminent Korean parent, but, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, the case here is traditionally plastic, rather slippery to the touch. The back, fortunately, is not glossy. A few subtle scratches appeared on it even before my intervention in his life. True, I don’t know how long the sample that I got for testing spent in work.

    From iPhone 4s

    The thickness of 10 and a half millimeters does not allow the tablet to be considered very thin, but it still allows it to fit into the pockets of jackets or jeans (not any, really). Although a book-like device weighing 342 grams, in my opinion, it is more convenient to carry in a bag than in clothes. But such a weight allows you to hold the tablet with one hand for quite a long time.

    The top end contains an audio jack, the bottom - a pair of speakers and a charging jack.

    On the right are the power off and volume control buttons, but on the left side there is a place for a microSD card reader covered with a plug.

    It will definitely be appreciated by those who are looking for an inexpensive tablet with a well-known name on the case and at the same time plan to transfer data frequently (the last phrase contains a warm hello to the Galaxy Nexus and its biggest drawback, the lack of expandable memory). The body plastic is quite simple, but durable: the tablet is assembled well, the parts are fitted to each other, squeaks are not heard when pressed.

    Screen

    1024x600 pixels is not God knows what resolution by today's standards, but it is much more important that the tablet has a PLS matrix, not a TN one. Let me remind you that PLS is a technology similar to IPS, only manufactured by Samsung. It looks like the viewing angles are good, whatever one may say, everything will be visible. However, in terms of clarity, brightness and contrast, it seemed to me that this screen is inferior to colleagues with IPS middle class. The colors are not calm in an oriental way, somewhat pale, which, for me personally, is preferable to the flashy colors of SuperAmoled.

    On a sunny day, the screen is poorly visible, but you can distinguish the letters. Only here it is better to set the brightness to the maximum, and in general it is better to adjust it manually: auto-correction does not always work correctly. Reading or watching movies indoors from a tablet is convenient. Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 responds to touch quite sensitively, understands up to 10 fingers at the same time.

    Comparison with iPhone 4S screen

    Performance, functionality and software

    The tablet has Android 4.0.4 with a proprietary TouchWiz shell, in a version similar to the Samsung Galaxy SIII. For details, we refer the reader to that review, but here we will briefly mention that this interface is quite close to pure Android, there is a convenient division into applications and widgets. There is a built-in file manager, a simple but convenient "program tracking" widget, which allows you to quickly deal with the eternal Android problem - applications hanging in memory.

    I also liked the cute clock widgets with an alarm clock, a note-taking program (though only through the keyboard, without the ability to draw), a rather convenient S Planner organizer and, as always, not the most convenient browser.

    The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 also has a “Contacts” item that pulls up information from a Google account, and also, in the case of a 3G model, from the phone book.

    The control keys here are on-screen, and a button for quick screenshots has been added to the three standards. This is convenient, but is it really necessary for the vast majority of users?

    The multimedia capabilities of the tablet are not bad. First, as is always the case with Samsung devices, the Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 supports a variety of audio and video formats. So, you can listen to MP3, OGG, AAC, AMR-NB, WB, WMA, WAV, MID, IMY and, fortunately, FLAC. The sound from the speakers is of medium volume (at the maximum you can watch a movie in a quiet place) and the average level. Of course, not a music lover, but it will do for a tablet. In headphones, it immediately becomes softer and more pleasant, quite clear, at about 80% of the volume, then slightly creaks. True, the sound is flat, there are no special basses here.

    A fairly advanced hardware platform - and the Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chipset with the ARMv7 instruction set and the PowerVR SGX540 graphics accelerator - is installed here - it has an IVA3 multimedia accelerator that encodes and decodes 1080p video in hardware. I launched a FullHD movie in MKV, it played without problems in general, although the picture started to slow down a couple of times. In general, TouchWiz, although pleasant, is not the fastest shell. Sometimes the smoothness of the transition between pages was lost, although I did not observe any critical “brakes”. The tablet shows normal average results both in benchmarks and in games. Say, in Dead Trigger, it is quite possible to play. For toys and everything else, 400 MB of RAM out of a total of 1 GB are available in the device, and the storage capacity in our case was only 8 GB. However, there is an option with 16 GB, and the microSD slot is, fortunately, available.

    The tablet found WiFi points quickly enough and did not lose it, but GPS is not always stable: without the Internet, when driving in a car, it sometimes tries to find a location for a very long time.

    Camera

    The main camera has a resolution of 3 MP, which, of course, is quite small. But her biggest problem is not the number of megapixels, but simple optics, lack of autofocus and flash. More or less decent pictures are obtained only in perfect lighting. However, tablets, even seven-inch ones, are not the most convenient tools for capturing the world around us. Nevertheless, if you really need it, you can take poor pictures, as well as videos in a resolution of 1280x720 pixels at 30 frames per second. The front camera works for video calls. Checked: it works, you can recognize a person, however, if you are not in the twilight of a rainy day.

    autonomy

    Under normal load (Internet, movies, music, reading - periodically during the day) with a variation in screen brightness from 70 to 100%, the tablet works for about 2.5-3 days without recharging. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 played a FullHD video at maximum screen brightness and sound volume, and turned on WiFi for 4 hours and 23 minutes. Decent performance, although slightly behind the Nexus 7.

    Competitors

    Obviously, in the budget segment of 7-inch tablets, the Nexus 7 is one of the main leaders, and it is he who is the main competitor of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. For the same price, the Google/ASUS Nexus 7 has a higher resolution screen and is somewhat faster. However, the lack of support for external media for many becomes a reason not to buy the brainchild of Google and ASUS, as well as sometimes the lack of a 3G module. We got the non-3G version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 for about $200, while the 3G module adds another hundred to it. However, it has already come out with this same module, let's see how quickly and at what price it will be with us. Also worth mentioning is the Amazon Kindle Fire HD, which is somewhat heavier and larger than standard 7-inch tablets, but has a 16:10 aspect ratio screen, which may be more acceptable to some users than the generally accepted 16:9 standard.

    In the dry matter

    Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 may be a good choice for those who are looking for a fairly productive inexpensive 7-inch tablet with a decent screen for surfing, reading and watching videos, for those who need GPS and memory cards, as well as a 3G module. 4 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0:

    • Price/quality ratio
    • Good performance in games and videos
    • Support for a large number of audio and video formats
    • Good build

    2 reasons not to buy Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0:

    • Slowdown in the TouchWiz shell.
    • Weak camera.
